Short Term Scientific Missions

Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) offer researchers involved in a COST Action the opportunity to visit institutions worldwide. The purpose of these missions is to promote collaboration, share innovative techniques, and access research infrastructure that may not be available at the researcher’s home institution. STSMs present a valuable opportunity for both early-career and experienced researchers seeking mentorship and lifelong learning.

The COST Action a-STEP accepts STSM applications annually, with the following periods for participation:

  • 01/12/2020 – 20/09/2021
  • 01/12/2021 – 20/09/2022
  • 01/12/2022 – 20/09/2023
  • 01/12/2023 – 20/09/2024

Please note that all STSMs must be completed within the indicated timeframes, and reports must be submitted by the deadlines specified in the calls. Funding is contingent upon meeting the expected outputs, contributing to the Action’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) objectives and deliverables, and adhering to the deadlines provided. Additionally, STSMs should support the scientific goals of one or more of a-STEP’s Working Groups.
